Using Entertainment to Create Great Customer Appreciation Events

What’s the most valuable asset of any business? No, it’s not the product or service you provide… it’s your customers or clients. And there’s almost nothing as beneficial to your long term business success as finding effective ways to make your customers feel
important, valued, and appreciated.

And of course, in terms of developing new customers, finding ways to set yourself apart and offer a little bit extra will go far in bringing new business to your company as well. If you’re willing to think outside the box, and take a fun, creative approach, there are some great ways that you can use entertainment and “hospitality” to grab the attention of your customers, clients, or prospects, and show them a great time they won’t soon forget.

There are a variety of different types of customer appreciation events that you can plan, and depending upon your type of business and your target clientele, you may decide to have it at your business or to hold it “off-site” at an appropriate location. And you may wish to center your event around a special occasion, such as business anniversaries or milestones.

For retail and sales businesses, you may decide to have an “open house” in which you both entertain and offer special sales or buying incentives of some kind. These are often used successfully for automobile dealerships, for example, but the idea can be adapted to just about any other type of sales related business.

For these types of events, strolling entertainers can be a great attraction to encourage people to attend. Magic is terrific of course, but depending on the tone you wish to set, some other options worth considering include strolling musicians, jugglers, or other variety entertainers.

If you expect children to also be present, or if you specifically want to target parents or family groups, you can also include children’s entertainers such as clowns, face painters, or stilt walkers, for example. If you hope to assist parents with sales or other issues during the event, having activities for the children will keep them happy and allow you time to chat with the parents.

You may wish to choose a special theme for your event (such as an Irish theme for events around St. Patrick’s Day) to make it more fun and interesting. In this case, you can also choose entertainers that fit the theme, such as Irish cloggers, or Celtic musicians.

For the sales open house, you may also wish to team up with a local TV or radio station, particularly if you already advertise with them, and set up a “remote” event, where the station broadcasts live from your location. This helps to bring a bit more excitement, and of course to better promote all the attractions at your event.

For professional services, such as realtors, financial planners, and health care offices, you may choose to arrange a more formal “thank you” event to wine and dine both your past and current clients, as well as their friends, referrals, and other prospects. These can be held on site if your office has the space, or you can use a banquet hall or other appropriate facility. And the event itself can run the gamut from a simple cocktail hour, to a more formal dinner party.

The more formal affairs call for a slightly different approach to entertainment, but there are still some great choices, (including magic, of course!) A small string quartet or light jazz combo can set a great tone. And you can have a feature performer of some kind, such as a magician, comic, or singer, to provide a great way to wrap up the event and make everyone feel they’ve been treated royally.

Another approach to these types of events that can be valuable to your clients is to mix the “hospitality” with an informal “educational seminar” and actually offer them some valuable information. This could be estate planning or investment seminars for financial planners; tips on staying healthy for health care offices such as chiropractors; or a short seminar on refinancing for realtors or mortgage specialists, just to give a few examples.

Even with this approach, entertainment can be a terrific addition to help balance out the information and ensure your guests have a truly enjoyable time. The more experienced entertainers (like me) can also customize their programs to fit into the educational theme of your event. For example, using magic as way of illustrating key topic points you wish to emphasize for clients can be a great way to give the ideas more emotional depth and make them truly memorable.

If your business attends trade shows or sets up booths at community business expo’s, entertainment can be a great way to grab people’s attention, bring them to your booth, or just make them feel special. And at many of these types of shows, you may also choose to provide a hospitality suite to wine and dine clients, in which case light music or casual strolling entertainment can be a great choice.

These (and many other) types of customer appreciation and “thank you” events can be a terrific way to keep your business in the minds of customers and prospects, and even help develop deeper, more long term personal relationships with them. No matter what kind of business you’re in, this kind of specialized attention and consideration towards your customers will pay off many times over in referrals, customer loyalty, and repeat business.

The word “entertainment” covers a lot of territory and we spend a vast amount of time entertaining and being entertained. What is entertainment for one is not necessarily entertainment for another. We will keep this in mind as we explore the various forms of entertainment that surround us every minute of every day.

While driving we see someone pulled over by the local law enforcement receiving a ticket. Some of us will be entertained by that and relieved it isn’t us who gained the attention of the traffic patrol. Now the person receiving the ticket is not being entertained at all.

Watching a dog chase a cat over the fence, through the yard and up a tree is entertainment. Especially if it’s not your cat. And even if it were, at least the dog was being entertained.

One more example of this form of entertainment is in order. Okay. Maybe not. But I just can’t help myself. There is the story of the man who ran a red light and struck a car carrying some elderly ladies. He was without a doubt in the wrong, but upon seeing who was in the car he thought he would bully them. He approached the vehicle and started yelling and blaming the driver for the accident. Well the ladies would have none of it and began to pummel the character with handbags and umbrellas. Now was this entertainment to those involved? I doubt it. But it sure was to those who witnessed the event.

Now let’s explore some other, more conventional forms of entertainment. The types we find less nerve racking and more enjoyable. Reading, for example, is not only relaxing but is also intellectually stimulating. Books and magazines are sometimes just what the doctor ordered to ease the tensions of a stressful day. Of course, there are many types of books. There are text books, audio books, online books, children’s books, and novels of all kinds. Reading is a great form of entertainment.

Going to the movies is fine entertainment. Or, renting a video or DVD, and relaxing in your easy chair with some nuked popcorn and a cold drink is even better yet. You can take an intermission whenever you want and it’s much less expensive. Sometimes you feel like going out, sometimes you don’t.

Music. We can’t forget music. Music in one fashion or another, has been and always will be with us. I have no idea what the first music ever played was. But I do know that today’s music is available in many genres. We have classical, rock, pop, punk, rap, blues, soul, jazz, christian, and country music just to name a few. Yesterdays 45s and LPs are all but gone. They have been replaced with music videos, music downloads, and CDs.

Entertaining does not have to be expensive. Instead, with a few great ideas you can set yourself up for an evening of fun interactions with your friends without spending and arm and a leg. Allow yourself to be creative and you will be in for a great time!

One of the easiest expenses for most families to reduce is the entertainment budget. It is possible for the average family to keep themselves entertained and save hundreds of dollars on entertainment every year.

One of the biggest interest costs many families have is satellite or cable TV which can cost around $100 a month. Most of us have got satellite or cable TV because there was little or nothing to watch on broadcast television. Another option the technologically minded should look into is videos downloaded through the Internet. This is a relatively new technology that is still inconvenient for the average person, but it is getting better.

There are quite a few services that make video including free episodes of classic TV shows available online. One problem is that there is no standard practice to transfer video from a computer to a TV set. Fortunately, most recent TV sets have connections for computers.

There are also DVD players and video game systems like the X-Box which allow users to play videos downloaded from the net. These systems are sometimes much more expensive but most times they are cheaper than cable.

Choosing Wedding Entertainment For Your Reception

So you’ve just got engaged! It’s now time for the excitement to begin. You’ve got a wedding to plan! At this point you’ve probably got a lot of questions running through your mind. Where do you begin? What questions should I ask vendors? Where am I going to get the money? Wait, how much money are we talking about? On the contrary to what most couples believe, wedding planning can actually be fun. With proper planning and allocated time to complete it you can create your truly unique and exciting Chicago Wedding reception.

When it comes to the entertainment portion of your reception this should be treated with care as with all your other very important wedding details. The entertainment seems to be one of, if not the most important components to a reception. Sure, the food, decorations, and socialization are very important but without entertainment, these events would take on an entirely different personality.

For affairs that are focuses around the entertainment, or at least ones where it is responsible for a major role in the success or failure of the event, some serious considerations must be taken when hiring the right entertainment.

Will you find the right entertainment by hiring the one that answers the phone first or the one that has the lowest price or would you select one just because they live in your hometown? These are actually several things you should consider before selecting your entertainer:

1. Is the entertainer experienced in providing services for your event type? This question can’t just be answered in a yes or no question either. You’ll want someone who knows the ropes. How much experience do you want your entertainer to have? Consider getting a list of references from previous clients.
2. Who will actually be the entertainer at your event? Often times with larger multi-operational companies you won’t actually know who your entertainer is until that night. Is this something you’re willing to accept? Always ask this question when shopping for entertainment and make sure it’s laid out clear and concise in your contract.
3. What type of equipment do you deserve to have at your event? Imagine not being able to understand announcements or even worse hearing a hiss or buzz during your event. Imagine having part of your beautifully decorated event contain an eyesore of wires and beat up equipment. Another important face is just because an entertainer charges top dollar doesn’t always mean they’ll bring top dollar equipment to your event. Getting a picture of their setup is a must!
4. What additional services are included other than just playing music? Will you need a master of ceremonies (emcee) at your event, a coordinator, or even someone to interact and participate with your crowd? Is your entertainer willing to step up to the plate and deliver those services? These can be important things to ask before your event. You’d hate to hire an entertainer who can’t entertain.
5. Is your entertainer and elegant public speaker? Do they speak in complete sentences without stuttering and using um and uh? Public speaking is said to be one of the number one fears in the United States. If someone isn’t good at speaking in person odds are they won’t be able to speak in front of your crowd. This is a very important aspect of the entertainer can be over looked.
6. Is backup equipment provided and immediately available? As you know all electronics are man-made and with all man-made products they can fail. So it’s important that your entertainer have not only backup equipment but also a backup plan. Ask your entertainer for their backup plan.
7. What happens if the entertainer is ill or otherwise cannot attend your event? These details should be laid out in a written contract form with EVERY service provider. Always lay these things out prior to your event to prevent any situations later on.
8. Is your entertainer insured? Every legitimate business has insurance. This may not seem important upfront, but heaven forbid something were to happen at your event. Are you willing to hire an entertainer without it? Ask your entertainer for his proof of property AND liability insurance.
9. Are there any hidden additional charges or expected necessities from your entertainer? For example, are you required to pay a service charge for stairs at the reception hall? Or are you required to pay for their dinner? Will they need to take smoke breaks? If you’re entertainer doesn’t cover these issues in their sales pitch perhaps you should ask them.
10. How much input will you be able to give on your music selection? This can also be a very important question when you’re shopping for entertainment. Everyone has their own tastes and preferences when it comes to music. Will your entertainer be able to cater to those tastes or will they stick to their own routine. Also does your entertainer offer online music planning?

With so much riding on the success of your event your entertainment should never be over looked. There should be several factors that come into play rather than just price when shopping for your wedding entertainment. Don’t ever be afraid to ask questions as the entertainment will have a direct impact on the entire success of your reception.

Prices have been constantly rising, and it seems like everyone is struggling to make ends meet. Somehow our income is not going as far as it used to and our bills are getting higher by the minute. However, that does not mean that you have to be house poor and simply go home every night. You can definitely have a social life by simply creating some inexpensive entertainment options. The key is to be creative!

Game Night

A little healthy competition gets everyone’s blood pumping, so why not set up your own game night? Invite a few of your friends over by sending out cute invitations. You can put together a crossword puzzle invite or even a word search. From there you need to set up your evening. Pull together a variety of board and card games. For this evening you will want to have easy to eat finger foods and yummy drinks. For example maybe you want to put together some mixed nuts, veggies and dip, and cheese and crackers along with some delicious flavored sodas in glass bottles. When your guests arrive you can simply get down to the fun at hand!

Wine Tasting

If you are looking for a sophisticated evening with friends then you might want to look into hosting a wine tasting for your friends. A great way to do this is to ask all of your guests to bring their favorite bottle of wine to share. From there you can get started on the food. One of the best ways to handle the snacks is to do cheese and chocolate which both go with wine fantastically. Entertaining does not have to be expensive. Instead, with a few great ideas you can set yourself up for an evening of fun interactions with your friends without spending and arm and a leg. Allow yourself to be creative and you will be in for a great time!
